  • Description

  • Dahlia decorative mixed seeds is a perennial (sometimes annual) plant with a long blooming season.
  • The flowers are easy to grow as they could resist full sun and tolerate moderate shade.
  • The flowers bloom from summer until the temperature stays above 19 degree celsius
  • The herbaceous bulbs add ornamental beauty to the garden.
  • The flowers bloom in warm, alluring colors like red, yellow, orange, peach, pink, lavender or white. The flowers can also be bi-colored

The Dahlia Decorative flowering plants are popular for fairly visible reasons, the variegated colors of the large blooms. Blooming from the peak of summer to the beginning of the first frost, Dahlia loves sunlight but could tolerate mild shade. The mixed seed bundle grows into elegantly curled petals of different colors, white, red, yellow, orange, peach, pink, lavender or bi-colored. Growing up to 6 feet, the annual/ perennial flowering plant adapts well in loamy soil, making it an easy way to add splashes of colors in your garden. The herbaceous bushes produce tubers when there is frost, which can be stored and replanted during March for fresh growths.

How to Care

  • Dahlia should be planted in a manure rich soil like the one we have, when the soil is warm enough. The seeds should be sown 3-6 inches apart in a well-drained loamy soil.
  • It is best to germinate the seed in a seedling tray. It is important to place the seedling tray in full sun. Once the soil outside is warm enough/ when the first greens are noticed, transfer it to the soil or suitable grow bags. February or March is the best time to sow directly in the soil or transplant the germinated seedlings. Choose a grow bag which is at least 12 inches deep like the one we have.
  • Keep the soil adequately moist until first green growth is noticed. Once the first green occurs, water generously for two-three times a week or when the soil is dry. Water deeply to build stronger roots.
  • Dahlia flowers from July until the temperature goes below 18 degree celsius. If planted in warmer places in India, the plant may continue blooming but if the soil temperatures gets below 18 degree celsius, the plant will struggle to survive and thus should be replanted next spring.
  • Dahlia flowers expect lucious soil to grow bigger and bloom better, thus it is important to fertilize every 2-3 weeks. Dahlia blooms require phosphorus rich fertilizer that has Nitrogen-Phosphorus-Potassium in 1:3:2 ratio. The plant requires more phosphorus and less nitrogen to produce lush coloured blooms.
  • The flowers are also susceptible to pest attacks. Slugs, thrips and caterpillars attack younger saplings. The plant is also susceptible to powdery mildew. To avoid fungal attacks, the plants should be adequately spaced and rightly watered. Using organic solutions like Seed2plant Bio Pest control will prevent pest and fungal attacks.
