Sowing and Caring

  • To start, the seeds should be sown indoors in a seedling tray. Organic soilless medium like coco peat should be used to sow the seedling. Germination occurs between 14-21 days.
  •  Use a comfortable Grow bag like Seed2Plant HDPE spinach round grow bags to transfer the seedlings. Use organically enriched potting mix like the one we have. Keep the soil slightly loose for the roots to breathe. The seedlings can be transferred immediately after germination or can be let to grow for 2 more weeks (until the true leaves are fully grown) in the seedling tray.
  • Parsley requires partial sunlight for 3-4 hours a day. It is suggested to add vermicompost every 2-3 weeks. Fertilize once in 2 weeks with a nitrogen-rich fertilizer.

Harvest

  • Harvest can begin 80-100 days after planting the seeds. At times the leaves start to curl indicating an appropriate time to harvest.
  • For best taste, parsley leaves should be harvested in the mornings.
  • Harvest by carefully removing the outer leaves. One should either pinch at the base of the with your fingers or by using gardening shears to prune outere leaves.

Common Problems

  • Browning of leaves is a common problem that occurs due to overwatering. In addition, overwatering or underwatering leads to wilting and stunted growth.

Precautions

  • Adding nitrogen-rich organic manure like the Seed2Plant Azospirillum Nitrogen-fixing biofertilizer to the soil will stimulate the growth. Parsley requires nutrient rich conditions to grow and hence vermicompost or any organic soil enrichers should be added once in 2-3 weeks to stimulate growth.
